The United States (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of essential oils exports from Argentina, with a combined 85% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the UK, Canada and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +35.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Ireland ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for essential oils exported from Argentina worldwide, with a combined 92% share of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, essential oils imports into Argentina dropped to X tons, with a decrease of -14.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, essential oils imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest essential oils supplier to Argentina, accounting for a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, essential oils imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. Mexico (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil stood at -4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-6.1% per year) and Mexico (+9.2% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), Brazil ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest essential oils suppliers to Argentina, with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, China, India, Mexico, Spain, Paraguay and Uruguay, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Among the main suppliers, Mexico, with a CAGR of +11.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average essential oils import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
