Wheelchair Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of wheelchairs increased by X% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wheelchair exports totaled $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Equatorial Guinea (X units), Namibia (X units), Kenya (X units) and Seychelles (X units) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Seychelles (X%) and Kenya (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Equatorial Guinea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Namibia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (X p.p.), Equatorial Guinea (X p.p.) and Seychelles (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Namibia saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest wheelchair supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Equatorial Guinea, with a X% share.

In South Africa, wheelchair exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (X% per year) and Equatorial Guinea (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, wheelchair imports in Africa skyrocketed to X units, jumping by X% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wheelchair imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of wheelchairs, namely Libya, Nigeria, South Africa and Algeria, represented more than third of total import. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units), committing a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Kenya (X units), Mozambique (X units), Egypt (X units), Mauritius (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Tunisia (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) - together made up X% of total imports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
