Non-Propelled Vehicle Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of vehicles not mechanically propelled increased by X% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after six years of decline. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt decline. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Angola (X units) and Kenya (X units), together comprising a X% share of total exports. Zimbabwe (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-propelled vehicle exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Angola (X%), Kenya (X%) and Zimbabwe (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Angola (X p.p.), Kenya (X p.p.) and Zimbabwe (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while Angola ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, approx. X units of vehicles not mechanically propelled were imported in Africa; picking up by X% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Uganda (X units), Mozambique (X units), Angola (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Sudan (X units) represented the largest importers of vehicles not mechanically propelled, together creating X% of total imports. Mali (X units), Tunisia (X units), Algeria (X units), Morocco (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Liberia (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-propelled vehicle imports into South Africa stood at X%. In terms of the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
