In value terms, uncoated kraft liner exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 2.8%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the key exporter of uncoated kraft liner, comprising 71% of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Egypt (5.1%). Senegal (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

In 2021, the amount of uncoated kraft liner imported in Africa declined slightly to X tons, shrinking by -3.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Algeria and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
