Exports in Africa

In 2022, shipments abroad of tyres for motor cars was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, passenger car tyre exports rose notably to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Tunisia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
