Twine and cordage exports surged to X tons in 2022, rising by X% on 2021. Overall, exports saw a strong increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, twine and cordage exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Tanzania prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Mozambique (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by South Africa (X%). Madagascar (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to twine and cordage exports from Tanzania stood at X%. At the same time, Mozambique (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (X%), Madagascar (X%), Kenya (X%) and Tunisia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Algeria, Libya, Angola and Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Nigeria (X p.p.) and Mozambique (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Algeria, Angola and Tanzania saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sudan (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
