In 2021, Egypt (X tons) represented the major exporter of tilapias, committing X% of total exports. Namibia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Zambia (X%), Zimbabwe (X%) and Uganda (X%). Senegal (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tilapias exports from Egypt stood at +X%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tilapias imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the main importer of tilapias, committing X% of total imports. Zambia (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kenya (X%), Ghana (X%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%), Benin (X%) and Namibia (X%). South Africa (X tons), Gabon (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Cote d'Ivoire increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+X%), Namibia (+X%), South Africa (+X%), Benin (+X%) and Zambia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Democratic Republic of the Congo (-X%), Gabon (-X%), Nigeria (-X%) and Cameroon (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+X p.p.), Kenya (+X p.p.), Namibia (+X p.p.), Zambia (+X p.p.), Benin (+X p.p.) and South Africa (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria and Cameroon saw its share reduced by -X% and -X% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
