In 2022, shipments abroad of ties, bow ties and cravats of silk or silk waste (excluding knitted or crocheted) was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2012, thus ending a nine-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a dramatic decline. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, silk tie exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Rwanda (X units) and South Africa (X units) dominates exports structure, together making up X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Angola (X units), constituting a X% share of total exports. Tunisia (X units) and Madagascar (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of X.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest silk tie supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Madagascar ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. Rwanda and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
