Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of soap decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soap imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of soap, namely Tanzania, Angola, Ghana, Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mali, Madagascar, Chad, Burkina Faso, Somalia and Niger, represented more than half of total import. Libya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
