Exports in Africa

For the fourth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in overseas shipments of silk shawls and scarves, which increased by X% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, silk shawl and scarf exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In 2022, Tunisia (X units) was the key exporter of silk shawls and scarves, committing X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Madagascar (X units), generating an X% share of total exports.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, imports of silk shawls and scarves in Africa dropped markedly to X units, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silk shawl and scarf imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction.
