Exports in Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of scent sprays increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, scent spray exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the major exporter of scent sprays, making up X% of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Tunisia (X%). Senegal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to scent spray exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Nigeria (X%), Tunisia (X%) and Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Nigeria (X p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.), Tunisia (X p.p.) and Senegal (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of scent sprays increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports enjoyed a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, scent spray imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of scent spray imports in 2022 were South Africa (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together resulting at X% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising X% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Morocco, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, scent spray import price increased by X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
