Exports in Africa
In 2022, overseas shipments of quicklime, slaked lime and hydraulic lime were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of quicklime, slaked lime and hydraulic lime soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Zambia (X tons) represented the main exporter of quicklime, slaked lime and hydraulic lime, generating X% of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (X%), South Africa (X%) and Tanzania (X%). Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
