Exports in Africa

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of prepared driers decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, prepared drier exports declined notably to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Egypt prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), making up an X% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the prepared driers exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Kenya (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Egypt (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of South Africa (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest prepared drier supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In Egypt, prepared drier exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (X% per year) and Kenya (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, declining by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, prepared drier export price increased by X% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2023, the amount of prepared driers imported in Africa reached X tons, remaining stable against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prepared drier imports dropped to $X in 2023. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of prepared drier imports in 2023 were Kenya (X tons), Liberia (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Sudan (X tons) and Angola (X tons), together accounting for X% of total import. Algeria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Ethiopia (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kenya ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total imports. Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Tunisia, Sudan, Angola and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Ethiopia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
