Exports in Africa

In 2022, the amount of plastics household articles and toilet articles exported in Africa contracted to X tons, which is down by X% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) represented the major exporter of plastics household articles and toilet articles, making up X% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kenya (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. Uganda (X tons), Angola (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Rwanda (X%), Angola (X%), Uganda (X%), Morocco (X%), Egypt (X%), Togo (X%) and Kenya (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) and Ghana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (X p.p.), Angola (X p.p.), Uganda (X p.p.), Rwanda (X p.p.), Egypt (X p.p.), Kenya (X p.p.), Morocco (X p.p.) and Togo (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Tanzania (X p.p.) and Ghana (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plastic household ware supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Morocco, Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Rwanda, Ghana, Angola and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Rwanda, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plastic household ware imports shrank to X tons in 2022, which is down by X% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade.
