For the fifth consecutive year, the African pistachio market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Pistachio Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2022, exports of pistachios in Africa declined notably to X tons, dropping by X% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fifth consecutive year, Africa recorded growth in overseas purchases of pistachios, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, pistachio imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Nigeria was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded X% of total imports. Morocco (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Libya (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. The following importers - South Africa (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total imports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pistachios imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Libya (X%), Morocco (X%) and South Africa (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (X%) and Tunisia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
