Peat Exports

Exports in Africa

After six years of growth, shipments abroad of peat decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, peat exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Morocco (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Angola (X%) and Egypt (X%).

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peat exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (X%) and Angola (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Egypt (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa and Morocco increased by X and X percentage points, respectively.
