Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-wheat flour imports surged to $X in 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2023 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The purchases of the five major importers of non-wheat flours, namely Mozambique, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria and Lesotho, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
