Natural Polymers Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2022, exports of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms in Africa contracted dramatically to X tons, waning by X% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, natural polymers exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports. Egypt (X tons), Angola (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Angola (X%), Zambia (X%), Tanzania (X%), Ghana (X%), Egypt (X%) and Kenya (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Zambia, Angola, Tanzania and Ghana increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.

In 2022, overseas purchases of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, natural polymers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade.
