Canned Mushroom Market Size in Africa

After five years of growth, the African canned mushroom market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of canned mushroom production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Morocco, while canned mushroom production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, canned mushroom exports in Africa contracted dramatically to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with the year before. Overall, exports saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2014 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2020. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. from 2016 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates canned mushroom exports structure, resulting at X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. Morocco (X tonnes) took a X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Mali (X%) and Mauritius (X%). Egypt (X tonnes) took a little share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned mushroom exports from South Africa stood at +X%. At the same time, Mali (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. Mauritius experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Morocco (-X%), Cote d'Ivoire (-X%) and Egypt (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2020, the share of South Africa and Mali increased by +X% and +X% percentage points, while Cote d'Ivoire (-X p.p.) and Egypt (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the largest canned mushroom supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Morocco ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+X% per year) and Mauritius (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the canned mushroom export price in Africa amounted to $X per tonne, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, canned mushroom export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2016 to 2020, the growth in terms of the export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per tonne), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Egypt (X tonnes), Algeria (X tonnes), Morocco (X tonnes) and Tunisia (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of canned mushrooms in 2020. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X tonnes), making up a X% share of total imports.
