In 2021, the African manostat market decreased by -3.1% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of manostats increased by 1.9% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 123% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, manostat exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the main exporter of manostats in Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 68% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units), mixing up a 20% share of total exports. Morocco (X units) and Togo (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -12.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Togo (-6.3%) and Tunisia (-23.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+19 p.p.), Morocco (+3.8 p.p.) and Togo (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia saw its share reduced by -26.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 75% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +27.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -42.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 183% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+20.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of manostats, when their volume increased by 0.9% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, manostat imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 9.7%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the five major importers of manostats, namely South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Libya (X units), achieving a 4.6% share of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X units) and Kenya (X units) - together made up 4.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Tanzania (with a CAGR of +22.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Kenya and Tanzania, which together accounted for a further 21%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +35.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -7.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+10.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
