Plain Postcard Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2023, overseas shipments of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plain postcard exports surged to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Egypt (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Rwanda (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Kenya (X%) and Egypt (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (X p.p.) and Rwanda (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kenya and Egypt saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest plain postcard supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Rwanda ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Rwanda (X% per year) and Egypt (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

Plain postcard imports contracted to X tons in 2023, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plain postcard imports expanded to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Tanzania (X tons) and Ethiopia (X tons) were the largest importers of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards in 2023, recording near X% and X% of total imports, respectively. Rwanda (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Mozambique (X%), Morocco (X%), South Africa (X%) and Angola (X%). Algeria (X tons), Gambia (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ethiopia ($X), Angola ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports. Gambia, Morocco, Tanzania, Algeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zambia and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Gambia, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, plain postcard import price decreased by X% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Gambia ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
