In 2023, Swaziland (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporters of lactams from heterocyclic compounds in Africa, together making up X% of total exports. Kenya (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (X%) and Chad (X%). Morocco (X kg) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Swaziland (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, purchases abroad of lactams from heterocyclic compounds decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lactam imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2022, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to X% of total imports. Egypt (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X tons) and Algeria (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Togo (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of lactams from heterocyclic compounds. At the same time, Togo (X%), Nigeria (X%), Kenya (X%), Egypt (X%) and Algeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern.
