The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal gas appliances exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +114.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the key exporter of iron or steel gas domestic appliances, generating 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units), achieving a 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tunisia (X units) and Algeria (X units) - each recorded a 4.3% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-6.3%) and Algeria (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa and Egypt increased by +11 and +3.5 percentage points, respectively.

Among the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of iron or steel gas domestic appliances increased by 23% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 23%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal gas appliances imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa represented the key importer of iron or steel gas domestic appliances in Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units) and Morocco (X units), together constituting a 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Zimbabwe (X units), Algeria (X units), Botswana (X units) and Mauritius (X units) - together made up 9.2% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (+43.8%), Mauritius (+33.8%) and Zimbabwe (+18.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +43.8% from 2012-2022. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Botswana (-4.3%) and Algeria (-28.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+36 p.p.), Egypt (+14 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Algeria (-51.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron or steel gas domestic appliances in Africa, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with an 11% share.

In South Africa, metal gas appliances imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (+31.7% per year) and Morocco (-0.4% per year).
