Egypt represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons), achieving a 21% share of total exports.
Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hot-rolled bars in bearing steels exports, with a CAGR of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Egypt (+8.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Namibia saw its share reduced by -6.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while Egypt totaled $X per ton.

Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 792% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hot-rolled bearing steel bar imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Zambia (X tons), distantly followed by Ethiopia (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) represented the largest importers of hot-rolled bars in bearing steels, together achieving 75% of total imports. Egypt (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Zambia (with a CAGR of +56.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest hot-rolled bearing steel bar importing markets in Africa were Zambia ($X), Ghana ($X) and Tunisia ($X), together accounting for 45% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Zambia, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ethiopia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
