In 2022, preserved fish fillet exports in Africa reduced to X tons, dropping by X% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved fish fillet exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked), namely Morocco, Namibia and Tanzania, represented more than half of total export. Rwanda (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (X%), Kenya (X%) and Guinea (X%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tunisia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the key importer of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) in Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Angola (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. The following importers - Mauritius (X tons), Equatorial Guinea (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) - each reached a X% share of total imports.

Imports into Ghana decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritius (X%), Malawi (X%), Tunisia (X%) and Equatorial Guinea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Angola (X%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Angola (X p.p.), Ghana (X p.p.), Tunisia (X p.p.), Mauritius (X p.p.), Malawi (X p.p.) and Equatorial Guinea (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Malawi lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Mauritius, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
