Exports in Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of figs increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fig exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Morocco was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (X%) and Egypt (X%). The following exporters - South Sudan (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) - each reached a X% share of total exports.

Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the figs exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Swaziland (X%), Tunisia (X%) and South Africa (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Burkina Faso and South Sudan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In South Africa, fig exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (X% per year) and Egypt (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep downturn.
