Escalator Exports
Exports in Africa
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of escalators and moving WalkWays decreased by X% to X units in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, escalator exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the key exporter of escalators and moving WalkWays in Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Botswana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Tanzania (X%). Kenya (X units), Morocco (X units), Angola (X units), Mozambique (X units), Namibia (X units), Senegal (X units), Swaziland (X units), Egypt (X units) and Zambia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Botswana (X%), Kenya (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Swaziland, Senegal, Angola, Morocco, Mozambique and Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (X%) and Namibia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Botswana (X p.p.), South Africa (X p.p.), Kenya (X p.p.), Morocco (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.), Angola (X p.p.), Egypt (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.) and Zambia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Swaziland, Tanzania and Namibia saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest escalator supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (X% per year) and Morocco (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
