Electronic Chip Exports

Exports in Africa

After four years of growth, overseas shipments of electronic chips decreased by X% to X units in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, electronic chip exports surged to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Morocco (X units) represented the largest exporter of electronic chips, constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units) and South Africa (X units), together constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X units) and Cameroon (X units) - each resulted at a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to electronic chip exports from Morocco stood at X%. At the same time, Egypt (X%), Cameroon (X%), South Africa (X%) and Tunisia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Morocco (X p.p.) and Egypt (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa and Tunisia saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest electronic chip supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value in Morocco amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (X% per year) and South Africa (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Cameroon ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2023, supplies from abroad of electronic chips decreased by X% to X units for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, electronic chip imports expanded to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Tunisia (X units) and South Africa (X units) were the main importers of electronic chips in 2023, finishing at near X% and X% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units), comprising a X% share of total imports. Morocco (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, electronic chip import price increased by X% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
