Exports in Africa
In 2022, shipments abroad of dried prunes decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dried prune exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons) was the largest exporter of dried prunes, generating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), generating a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Guinea-Bissau (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Africa (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (X%).

For the fourth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in overseas purchases of dried prunes, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dried prune imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Algeria was the key importer of dried prunes in Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Egypt (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by South Africa (X%).
Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of dried prunes. At the same time, South Africa (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
