In 2022, purchases abroad of diesel-electric and other locomotives decreased by X% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, diesel-electric and other locomotive imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Congo (X units) and Mozambique (X units) represented roughly X% of total imports in 2022. Kenya (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Senegal (X%), Angola (X%) and Nigeria (X%). Djibouti (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
