Cotton-Seed Oil Exports

Exports in Africa

After four years of decline, shipments abroad of cotton-seed oil increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton-seed oil exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Benin represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to X% of total exports. Burkina Faso (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%). The following exporters - Egypt (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Benin decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Burkina Faso (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Zimbabwe (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Burkina Faso (X p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa and Benin saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Benin ($X), South Africa ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
