In 2022, overseas shipments of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages increased by X% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a slight expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa prevails in exports structure, amounting to X litres, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Kenya (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

By contrast, Namibia (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Botswana (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.), Ghana (X p.p.), Tanzania (X p.p.), Togo (X p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (X p.p.) and Namibia (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Botswana ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Namibia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per litre, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per litre), while Togo ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
