Exports in Africa
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chlorides exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Egypt was the main exporter of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tanzania (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.
Exports from Egypt increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tanzania (X%), Tunisia (X%) and South Africa (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Egypt (X p.p.) and Tanzania (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest chlorides supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a X% share.
In Egypt, chlorides exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (X% per year) and Tanzania (X% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chlorides imports into Nigeria stood at X%. At the same time, Cameroon (X%), Morocco (X%), South Africa (X%), Ethiopia (X%), Sudan (X%), Namibia (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cameroon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ghana (X%), Angola (X%) and Algeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Algeria, Namibia and Cameroon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Cameroon, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
