In value terms, cereal flour exports soared to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Egypt was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons), together generating a X% share of total exports. Zambia (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to cereal flour exports from Egypt stood at X%. At the same time, Ghana (X%), Lesotho (X%) and Rwanda (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Zambia and Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cereal flour imports reduced slightly to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, Somalia (X tons), distantly followed by Angola (X tons), Madagascar (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) were the main importers of cereal flours, together committing X% of total imports. Lesotho (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), South Sudan (X tons) and Benin (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to cereal flour imports into Somalia stood at X%. At the same time, Nigeria (X%), Sudan (X%), Mozambique (X%), Djibouti (X%), Lesotho (X%), South Sudan (X%), Sierra Leone (X%), Ghana (X%) and Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Benin (X%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) and Angola (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Somalia (X p.p.), Sudan (X p.p.), Djibouti (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.), Nigeria (X p.p.), Lesotho (X p.p.), Sierra Leone (X p.p.), South Sudan (X p.p.) and Madagascar (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
