The market value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Cassava Production in Africa
In value terms, cassava production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Nigeria (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), with a combined X% share of total production. Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania, Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Malawi, Benin and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of X%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the average cassava yield in Africa was estimated at X tons per ha, flattening at 2021. In general, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the cassava yield reached the peak level at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of cassava in Africa stood at X ha, surging by X% compared with the previous year. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the harvested area increased by X%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to cassava production attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Cassava Exports
Exports in Africa
Cassava exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, rising by X% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, cassava exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tanzania represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for X% of total exports. Uganda (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Rwanda (X%). Cameroon (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Tanzania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cassava exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uganda (X%), Rwanda (X%) and Cameroon (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ghana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Tanzania ($X) emerged as the largest cassava supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cameroon ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Uganda, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Tanzania amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cameroon (X% per year) and Uganda (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cameroon (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Cassava Imports
Imports in Africa
Cassava imports contracted rapidly to X tons in 2022, dropping by X% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cassava imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Rwanda represented the key importer of cassava in Africa, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Burundi (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Angola (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports.
Imports into Rwanda increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Angola (X%) and Burundi (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Rwanda and Angola increased by X and X percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Rwanda ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cassava in Africa, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burundi ($X), with a X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Rwanda stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Burundi (X% per year) and Angola (X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
