Canned Pineapple Exports

Exports in Africa

Canned pineapple exports surged to X tons in 2022, growing by 18% against the previous year. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned pineapple exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kenya dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Swaziland (X tons), comprising an 8% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned pineapple imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 17%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
