Bridge Exports

Exports in Africa

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bridge exports totaled $X in 2023. Overall, exports showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the four major exporters of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), namely Egypt, South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Kenya (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

In 2023, purchases abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
