The average avocado yield amounted to X tons per ha in 2022, flattening at the year before. In general, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the avocado yield failed to regain momentum. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the harvested area increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. Exports in Africa

For the third year in a row, Africa recorded growth in overseas shipments of avocados, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, avocado exports fell modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Kenya (X tons), distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) were the main exporters of avocados, together achieving X% of total exports. Zimbabwe (X tons), Burundi (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest avocado supplying countries in Africa were Morocco ($X), Kenya ($X) and South Africa ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Cote d'Ivoire and Burundi lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Egypt totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (X% per year) and South Africa (X% per year).

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
