Exports in Africa

In 2022, shipments abroad of aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium bar exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Egypt (X tons), distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Angola (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Mauritius (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the key exporters of aluminium bars, rods and profiles, together generating X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Angola (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium bar imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. At the same time, Djibouti (X%), Tunisia (X%), Senegal (X%), Egypt (X%), Tanzania (X%), Ghana (X%), Ethiopia (X%) and Mauritius (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Among the main importing countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
