Over the period under review, natural cork exports continue to indicate mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, natural cork exports amounted to $X in 2018. In general, natural cork exports continue to indicate a measured reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, natural cork exports reached their peak of $X. From 2011 to 2018, the growth of natural cork exports failed to regain its momentum.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tonnes) was the main destination for natural cork exports from the Netherlands, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, natural cork exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

In value terms, Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for natural cork exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. Australia, the UK, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Canada, Portugal, Bahrain and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the last eleven-year period, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands

In 2018, the imports of articles of natural cork and agglomerated cork into the Netherlands totaled X tonnes, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, natural cork imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, natural cork imports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2011 to 2018, the growth of natural cork imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, natural cork imports stood at $X in 2018. Over the period under review, natural cork imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic reduction. In that year, the average import prices for articles of natural cork and agglomerated cork reached their peak level and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.
