China Wood Chips, Particles And Residues Import Price in December 2021

In December 2021, the wood chips, particles and residues price stood at $79.8 per cubic meter (CIF, China), which is down by -4.7% against the previous month. Over the period from February 2021 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 8.6% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $83.8 per cubic meter in November 2021, and then contracted in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($117 per cubic meter), while the price for Vietnam ($70.5 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

As there is only one major imported type of wood chips, particles and residues, the average price level is determined by prices for wood chips and particles.

From February 2021 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for wood chips and particles amounted to +1.5% per month.

China Wood Chips, Particles And Residues Imports

In December 2021, the amount of wood chips, particles and residues imported into China contracted remarkably to 2.6M cubic meters, waning by -19.5% on November 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 when imports increased by 32% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 3.5M cubic meters in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to December 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood chips, particles and residues imports dropped notably to $204M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2021 when imports increased by 36% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 271M cubic meters in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to December 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In December 2021, wood chips and particles (2.6M cubic meters) was the main type of wood chips, particles and residues supplied to China, accounting for a approximately 100% share of total imports.

From February 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of wood chips and particles amounted to -1.9%.

In value terms, wood chips and particles ($204M) constituted the largest type of wood chips, particles and residues supplied to China.

China Wood Chips, Particles And Residues Imports by Country

In December 2021, Vietnam (1.5M cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips, particles and residues to China, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, wood chips, particles and residues imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (536K cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Brazil (150K cubic meters), with a 5.9% share.

From February 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (-1.3% per month) and Brazil (-4.6% per month).

In value terms, Vietnam ($109M) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips, particles and residues to China, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($48M), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 7.5% share.

From February 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (+0.3% per month) and Brazil (-2.7% per month).
