Wheat Price in France (FOB) - 2023
The average wheat export price stood at $284 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $386 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($336 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($318 per ton), while the average price for exports to Angola ($261 per ton) and Morocco ($273 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Wheat Price in France (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average wheat import price amounted to $281 per ton, shrinking by -44.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 54% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $741 per ton. From March 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($749 per ton), while the price for Germany ($252 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Exports in France
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of wheat, when their volume increased by 25% to 20M tons. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wheat exports surged to $7.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Wheat imports into France reduced notably to 202K tons in 2022, which is down by -23.9% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 0.5% against the previous year.
In value terms, wheat imports dropped to $78M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year.
