Vanilla Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

The average vanilla import price stood at $217K per ton in June 2023, jumping by 25% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 106% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $268K per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($268K per ton), while the price for France ($34,406 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

The average vanilla export price stood at $91,922 per ton in June 2023, dropping by -27.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 300% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $166K per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($205K per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($46,762 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+16.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Imports in the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. 219 tons of vanilla were imported into the Netherlands; dropping by -19.9% compared with 2021 figures. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +30.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 63%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 273 tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, vanilla imports shrank remarkably to $42M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 76%.

Vanilla Exports in the Netherlands

For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in shipments abroad of vanilla, which increased by 7.6% to 276 tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 90%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, vanilla exports expanded rapidly to $26M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 285% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
