Vanilla Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average vanilla import price amounted to $110K per ton, rising by 8.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 172% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $206K per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($161K per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($15,322 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Vanilla Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average vanilla export price amounted to $130K per ton, declining by -14.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 75% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $219K per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($289K per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($38,324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Imports in Germany

Vanilla imports into Germany fell to 510 tons in 2022, reducing by -5.2% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 538 tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, vanilla imports fell dramatically to $78M in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The smallest decline of -6.6% was in 2021.
