The average sorbitol export price stood at $891 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -11.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 12% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,003 per ton in May 2023, and then declined in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,279 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($544 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sorbitol Price in China (CIF) - 2022
The average sorbitol import price stood at $3,635 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted strong growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,317 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,014 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorbitol Exports in China
In 2022, the amount of d-glucitol (sorbitol) exported from China skyrocketed to 150K tons, with an increase of 32% against 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.6% against 2019 indices.
