Roasted Malt Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average roasted malt export price amounted to $757 per ton, which is down by -2.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $927 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($1,047 per ton) and Myanmar ($978 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($720 per ton) and Mongolia ($744 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Roasted Malt Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average roasted malt import price amounted to $1,041 per ton, dropping by -6.9% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 23% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,119 per ton in August 2023, and then declined in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,048 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands stood at $988 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Roasted Malt Exports in China
In 2022, approx. 11K tons of roasted malt were exported from China; flattening at 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, roasted malt exports soared to $8M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Roasted Malt Imports in China
In 2022, imports of roasted malt into China dropped rapidly to 3.1K tons, waning by -27.7% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded a sharp reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year.
In value terms, roasted malt imports reduced markedly to $2.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22%.
