The average pulses import price stood at $676 per ton in 2022, growing by 50% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($1,306 per ton), while the price for Canada ($525 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, pulses imports soared to $3.5B in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
