Price for Rusks and Toasted Bread in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average rusks and toasted bread import price stood at $5,094 per ton in August 2023, waning by -5.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,367 per ton, and then reduced in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($7,661 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($2,443 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Rusks and Toasted Bread in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average rusks and toasted bread export price stood at $2,643 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($3,869 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($1,861 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Rusks and Toasted Bread in the United States

In 2022, imports of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products into the United States expanded rapidly to 40K tons, with an increase of 11% against 2021. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 24%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports soared to $179M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
