Preserved Tomato Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average preserved tomato import price amounted to $1,470 per ton, surging by 5.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 13% m-o-m. The import price peaked in June 2023.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Italy.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Italy amounted to +3.0% per month.

Preserved Tomato Price in China (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average preserved tomato export price amounted to $1,139 per ton, reducing by -15.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 27% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,551 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,703 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritius ($739 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Tomato Imports in China

Preserved tomato imports into China contracted to 6.4K tons in 2022, shrinking by -11.2% against 2021 figures. In general, imports saw a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 6.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.2K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, preserved tomato imports amounted to $6.3M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Preserved Tomato Exports in China

For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of preserved tomatoes, which increased by 4.6% to 5.6K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +25.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +95.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, preserved tomato exports soared to $6.3M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced contraction.
