Motor and Generator Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average motor and generator import price stood at $19.1 per unit in August 2023, shrinking by -5.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $22.3 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($36.6 per unit), while the price for Switzerland ($6.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Motor and Generator Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average motor and generator export price amounted to $42.1 per unit, increasing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $51.9 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($148 per unit), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($13.4 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Motor and Generator Imports in the United States
In 2022, imports of motors and generators into the United States stood at 948M units, approximately equating the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 13%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, motor and generator imports rose significantly to $17.9B in 2022.
